Week 1
I am supposed to study the characters behavior so far in the book...
For the two characters I chose Jack and Ma... |
What makes the two main characters upset and happy? |
What motivates them to act? |
So far in the book Ma gets upset that her son and her are stuck in this tiny room that is under control by the man that kidnapped Ma. Jack tends to get upset whenever Ma is upset or when Ma pushes Jack out of his comfort zone. Both Jack and Ma tend to be happy around the same times. Jack is happy when he gets their "Sunday Treats" from Old Nick, Ma is usually happy when Jack is.
What does the character what and what are they willing to do to get it.Jack just wants material objects in his life so far and he will behave to get them, this is how most children are. Ma on the other hand just wants to escape her kidnapper and be able to live her own life in the real with her son. She will honestly to anything to get out because she is motivated to have the very best life for her son and herself.
|
In this book Jack and Ma live in an altered world due to the fact that they have been kidnapped and put in a room. The thing that motivates Ma the most is her son. She's always trying her best to protect and love Jack. I can't really tell what motivates Jack because he doesn't really know or understand a lot. I'd have to say something that motivates him is trying to please Ma and make her happy.
How do the characters respond to adversity and how do they solve their problems? The characters do not respond to adversity very well. They both tend to get very upset when something bad happens, which is understandable. Jack gets very upset over small things but it takes Ma a little bit more to actually get upset. Jack usually freaks out and cries when something happens, then Ma will just shut down and not do anything when she's upset.
|
In my opinion the character's are in a tough situation and trying to handle it as best as they can. You can tell that Jack is really behind as a kid. You can tell that Ma may have some issues with depression or something too because she has episodes in the book where she doesn't talk at all.
